How Repli Works with Shopify: Connection, Data and WhatsApp | Repli
Step by step: how Repli connects to a Shopify store, which read-only data it reads, how WhatsApp order messages are produced, and what is still in beta.
You install the Repli app in Shopify, then sign in to Repli and confirm the link.
Only the read permissions Shopify showed you. No write permissions are requested.
Store data is copied into your private workspace, and Shopify sends updates when orders, products or customers change.
Nothing goes out unless you turned the event on, the template is approved and the customer passes the checks.
Sent from your own connected WhatsApp Business number, or as an AI reply when the customer writes first.
Every send, skip and failure is logged. Conversations can be handed to a person in the inbox.
Order number, status, totals, currency, line items, fulfilments, refunds, returns
Name, email, phone, tags, order count, amount spent, marketing-consent state
Titles, variants, prices, stock levels, collections, locations
Shop settings, markets, policies, discounts, draft orders, reports
Open the Repli app from your Shopify admin. Shopify confirms who you are; Repli then asks you to sign in to your Repli account and confirm that this store belongs to it. A store already linked to another Repli account cannot be taken over this way.
Shopify lists the read permissions before you approve. Two of them (all orders and customer data) need extra approval from Shopify itself.
Link your WhatsApp Business number in Repli. Order messages are sent from that number, not from a shared Repli number.
Pick which of the order events to send, attach a WhatsApp template that Meta has approved for each one, and decide whether customers must have opted in first (on by default).
Test mode is on by default: messages are written to the log instead of reaching customers. Send a test to your own number, then switch test mode off.
Shopify notifies Repli about the change, Repli works out the event (for example "shipped"), runs every check below, and queues the message. Failed sends are retried up to five times and then marked as failed in the log.
Orders, fulfilments, refunds and returns; customer name, email, phone and marketing consent; products, variants, prices and stock; and store settings. It does not request payment, card, gift card or staff account permissions, and payment fields are dropped if they ever appear.
No. The Shopify app requests only read permissions — no write permissions — so it cannot edit, cancel or refund orders, change products or touch payouts.
Yes. Repli keeps a copy of the permitted store data in your private workspace so it can work without calling Shopify on every message. When the app is uninstalled the connection is closed, and when Shopify sends its store or customer deletion requests the copied data is erased.
How does Repli know which order belongs to a WhatsApp customer?
Automated order messages go to the phone number on the Shopify order. When a customer asks the AI agent about an order, Repli searches using the WhatsApp number they are writing from, or the order number or email they type. There is no one-time code check today, so keep sensitive requests with a human.
Only for events you switched on, with an approved template, to customers who pass the checks — and not while test mode is on. AI replies only happen when a customer messages you first.
Yes. WhatsApp only delivers business-started messages on templates Meta has approved, and Repli skips any event without one. Opt-in is required by default; customers marked as opted out are always skipped.
Repli renews the Shopify access key automatically before it expires. If a message fails it is retried up to five times, then recorded as failed with the reason, so you can see it in the delivery log.
Uninstall the Repli app from your Shopify admin. Repli closes the connection straight away. Shopify then sends Repli a request to erase the store data, which Repli processes automatically.
A store is only linked after you sign in to Repli and confirm it. It cannot be moved to a different Repli account without that account owner.
Shopify access keys are encrypted before they are saved and are only unlocked inside Repli's servers. They never reach your browser.
Repli uses Shopify's expiring access keys and renews them automatically before they run out.
No payment permissions are requested, and payment fields are stripped if they ever appear.
Uninstalling closes the connection. Shopify's store and customer deletion requests are processed automatically and recorded.
The AI agent finds orders by the customer's WhatsApp number, or an order number or email they give. There is no one-time code check yet, so route sensitive cases to a person.
Everything below is read-only. The app requests no Shopify write permissions.
Repli connects to your Shopify store with read-only access, keeps a private copy of the orders, products and customer details it is allowed to see, and uses them to send WhatsApp order updates from your own number or to answer customers who message you.
Linking an installed Shopify store to your Repli account: available.
The Repli app's Shopify App Store listing is not yet public.
How fresh is it? Changes reach Repli from Shopify within about a minute. Repli also re-checks each type of data on a schedule: orders and stock every 3 hours, products and customers every 6 hours, and store details daily.
Either an order change Shopify reports to Repli, or a customer writing to your WhatsApp number.
The order number, tracking link and similar details come from the Shopify data and are placed into your approved template's blanks.
