How does Repli know someone followed?

It asks Instagram’s API whether the person follows the connected business account, and retries the check a few times so a follow made seconds earlier is picked up.

What if the check still says not following?

The request stays pending and the person can tap the confirm button again — nothing is marked delivered until the DM actually goes out.

Do existing followers see the gate?

No. If the check passes straight away they get the content immediately.

Can I send files behind the gate?

Yes. Links, images and documents supported by Instagram messaging can be sent once the follow is confirmed.

Is this allowed by Instagram?

The flow uses Instagram’s official messaging and follow endpoints. It does not automate following, scraping or logging in as you.

Can I turn the gate off per rule?

Yes. The follow requirement is a setting on each automation, not an account-wide switch.
